community, Koh Kaew, Phuket.
The Chinese community
are significant
members of the community in Koh Kaew. As with many
villages in Phuket, the Chinese that settled here in
from the 1840's have strived hard and prospered. The
highly profitable tin mine concessions were run by
Chinese businessmen. Many of the most established
families have histories that go back to these days.
Work. Trade,
repair, food, all types of commerce the Chinese
community is well known for it's strong work ethic.
Most of the communities successful inhabitants have
Chinese origin.
Temple. The
main Chinese Temple of
Aam Tha Rua is
undergoing reconstruction.
Food. Food is
central to the Chinese way of life and the
celebrated Mee Sapam is a simple restaurant selling
many of Phukets favourites.
